The National Association of Women in Construction is hosting a photographic exhibition as part of the Festival of Architecture in 2018. The exhibition is held at Resene Colour Shop, 77 Thorndon Quay (just around the corner from school) between 7am - 5pm from the 14th - 23rd September. Alongside the exhibition they are hosting an event on Tuesday 18th September 4pm - 7pm to celebrate 22 years of the National Association of Women in Construction. Flyers can be seen below.

The University is offering two four-year conjoint degrees with the Bachelor of Product Design for 2019:
To enrol in one of these conjoint programmes students must have an overall merit endorsement in NCEA or equivalent for IB. Each year The University of Otago invites 400 current year 11 or 12 students from around the country to spend a week in Dunedin over their summer break exploring university life and a project of their interest with academics. Projects include for example, anatomy, anthropology, archaeology, classics, computer science, food science, genetics, immunology, marine science, nanochemistry, pharmacology, philosophy, electromagnetic radiation, physiology, politics, psychology, sports sciences, zoology and more. Students also get the opportunity to 'snack' on other topics in addition to their core project.
The cost of the programme is $675 which covers accommodation, meals and activities. Transport to the event is an additional cost. Scholarships are available to cover costs. Applications for the programme are due by Friday 19th October, and scholarship applications are due by 28th September. The University of Otago is the only university in New Zealand to offer the opportunity to pursue a career as a surveyor. This is a four year degree and suits students who have good ability across the curriculum including particularly English, Maths and Science. Surveyors have excellent job prospects. There are now three three year degree options available as outlined below.
The University of Otago is now also offering a three year Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Geographic Information Systems. This degree suits people who enjoy social and physical geography, wildlife, the environment and who also enjoy working within a computer environment. Students who are interested in Land Development as a specialty area can complete a three year Land Planning and Development Bachelor of Science degree which encompasses land planning, urban design, land law and civil engineering for land development. Finally, students have the option of completing a Bachelor of Science in Survey Measurement which is ideally suited to students who are good at Maths. Graduates work in the construction industry, mining industry, hydrographic surveying, surveying and can also work in multidisciplinary companies. As part of their One Billion Trees programme, the Ministry of Primary Industries is offering four scholarships to female and Maori students who are wanting to be involved in the forestry sector. The scholarship recipients will get $8,000 per year for four years for living costs and expenses, and also get a paid internship in the industry. Recipients must be studying the Bachelor of Forestry Science or the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Forest Engineering at Canterbury University. More information can be found here. Speech Language Therapists work in schools, hospitals and private practice. They work with clients who might have language developmental delays, head injuries, are recovering from strokes or have speech difficulties such as lisps or a stutter. They study a range of subjects including audiology, physics, biology, linguistics, psychology, and education as well as subjects that are specific to the profession. They also do a number of clinical placements during their training. Speech Language Therapy can be studied in Auckland and Christchurch. Massey University Speech Language Therapy School is hosting an Open Day in Albany, Auckland, on Thursday 23rd August. To apply to attend this day please see the application form attached. Engineering week takes place on the 13th - 16th August in Wellington. We have booked tickets for five different events which includes trips to Beca, Aurecon, Xero and WSP Opus suitable for year 10-13. If you would like to be a part of one of these trips, you will need to email me ASAP telling me which trip/s you would like to go on. It will be first in first served. Note that you can't do both trip 3 and 4 as they are on the same day. Similarly, you can't do both trip 3 and 5 as they are both the same trip, just on different days so we can get more students there. Here are the details of the 5 trips:

The University of Otago is offering a REACH scholarship for Maori students who are intending to study Health at Otago in 2019. The scholarship allows for a student to spend three days at the University experiencing what it is like living and studying there. Applications for the scholarship close on 15th June.
