Each year The University of Otago invites 400 current year 11 or 12 students from around the country to spend a week in Dunedin over their summer break exploring university life and a project of their interest with academics. Projects include for example, anatomy, anthropology, archaeology, classics, computer science, food science, genetics, immunology, marine science, nanochemistry, pharmacology, philosophy, electromagnetic radiation, physiology, politics, psychology, sports sciences, zoology and more. Students also get the opportunity to 'snack' on other topics in addition to their core project.
The cost of the programme is $675 which covers accommodation, meals and activities. Transport to the event is an additional cost. Scholarships are available to cover costs. Applications for the programme are due by Friday 19th October, and scholarship applications are due by 28th September. If you are keen to attend Hands-On at Otago, please see Mrs Gooch in A5 for application forms etc. You can also find out more here.
