From 2019, students interested in studying Medicine and Dentistry will instead sit the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) as part of their admissions process. The UCAT is a well-established and internationally respected test, used widely in the UK since 2006 (under the name UKCAT) to select students to medicine and dentistry courses at the majority of UK universities. The new test, which will replace the UMAT (Undergraduate Medical and Health Sciences Admission Test), offers many benefits to students and to the universities adopting the test. Rainbow New Zealand Trust is offering a $3,000 scholarship to a student who identifies as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex, and who is a good role model according to their peers and teachers and have excelled in effort at college. The scholarship is for students who are starting tertiary study in 2019. See the attached document for more details.
If you are interested in studying commercial music, design or fine arts, you can head to Strathmore Park Community Centre on Friday 19th October 2pm - 5pm to meet Warren Maxwell, lecturer from Massey University's Centre of Creative Arts and even show him your portfolio. Weltec is offering Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to get a taste of some of their programmes on 6th December, including making coffee, engineering, hairdressing, sport and fitness, IT servicing, barbering, beauty and creative technologies. The John Drake Memorial Scholarship is a $5,000 scholarship presented by the Auckland University Rugby Football Club for a student who has demonstrated sporting and personal achievements and is enrolling to study at Auckland University. Applications are due by the 5th of October 2018 for students studying in 2019. More information is attached.

On Wednesday 19th September we will be joined in A5 by local Justice of the Peace Lois Baillie. Lois will be available to verify copies of your certificates and identification as required for your study, accommodation and scholarship applications. You will need to bring your passport or drivers licence with you as ID. There is a photocopier just outside A5 that you can use to make copies. Please email Mrs Gooch if you plan on using this service, as if there are too many people we will need to book a second session.
