Weltec is offering Year 9 and 10 students the opportunity to get a taste of some of their programmes on 6th December, including making coffee, engineering, hairdressing, sport and fitness, IT servicing, barbering, beauty and creative technologies. On Saturday 13th October 1pm - 3.30pm the New Zealand College of Chiropractic will be holding their Open Day at 6 Harrison Road, Mount Wellington, Auckland. If you are keen to attend you must register here.
On Wednesday 19th September we will be joined in A5 by local Justice of the Peace Lois Baillie. Lois will be available to verify copies of your certificates and identification as required for your study, accommodation and scholarship applications. You will need to bring your passport or drivers licence with you as ID. There is a photocopier just outside A5 that you can use to make copies. Please email Mrs Gooch if you plan on using this service, as if there are too many people we will need to book a second session.
If you are keen to study at the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art, you have the opportunity to experience a day at the Academy on 12th September 2018.
If you are keen on studying music full time at the Academy the experience day is 13th September. You will take a tour of the school and meet tutors and current students. If you are planning on studying Science at The University of Auckland, consider applying for the Science Scholars Programme. This is a competitive programme that is for students who are keen to be involved in answering science's burning questions. The programme involves receiving one on one mentoring, careers support as well as cross-disciplinary and research opportunities as you attend additional seminars and meet visiting scientists in person. Each year The University of Otago invites 400 current year 11 or 12 students from around the country to spend a week in Dunedin over their summer break exploring university life and a project of their interest with academics. Projects include for example, anatomy, anthropology, archaeology, classics, computer science, food science, genetics, immunology, marine science, nanochemistry, pharmacology, philosophy, electromagnetic radiation, physiology, politics, psychology, sports sciences, zoology and more. Students also get the opportunity to 'snack' on other topics in addition to their core project.
The cost of the programme is $675 which covers accommodation, meals and activities. Transport to the event is an additional cost. Scholarships are available to cover costs. Applications for the programme are due by Friday 19th October, and scholarship applications are due by 28th September. As part of their One Billion Trees programme, the Ministry of Primary Industries is offering four scholarships to female and Maori students who are wanting to be involved in the forestry sector. The scholarship recipients will get $8,000 per year for four years for living costs and expenses, and also get a paid internship in the industry. Recipients must be studying the Bachelor of Forestry Science or the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Forest Engineering at Canterbury University. More information can be found here. If you are from Maori descent, are a current year 11 or 12 student, and have an interest in exploring Otago University as a study option in the future, you can apply for the Poutama Hands-on at Otago scholarship. Hands-on at Otago is run on 13 - 18 January 2019 and participants get to experience a week of activities relating to a particular university subject such as Classics or Surveying with people from all over New Zealand, and stay in a University hostel.
