If you are considering studying nursing, Massey University is offering a tour of their nursing school on 13th July in the evening. More details and info on how to register in the attachment.
Speech Language Therapists work in schools, hospitals and private practice. They work with clients who might have language developmental delays, head injuries, are recovering from strokes or have speech difficulties such as lisps or a stutter. They study a range of subjects including audiology, physics, biology, linguistics, psychology, and education as well as subjects that are specific to the profession. They also do a number of clinical placements during their training. Speech Language Therapy can be studied in Auckland and Christchurch. Massey University Speech Language Therapy School is hosting an Open Day in Albany, Auckland, on Thursday 23rd August. To apply to attend this day please see the application form attached. Also note, that you will need to be up to date with your school work, and request permission to be absent from school through the usual means.
If you are interested in studying at Massey University in Palmerston North, there is an Open Day for the Palmerston North campus on 1 August 2018. Click here to register for the day. Note that this open day occurs during school time, so you will need to be up to date with all your work to attend, and also get permission for your absence through the usual means. Massey is also offering some free bus trips for students to attend the Open Day. If you are keen to get on this bus trip, fill out the form attached and follow the instructions.
Straight after Chaplain's assembly on 10th August, come on up to A5 to hear musician Warrant Officer Denis Spurdle play, and talk about what a career as a musician looks like in NZ Defence. Apparently it's one of the best paid musician jobs you can get, so worth checking out if you are keen on music.
Engineering week takes place on the 13th - 16th August in Wellington. We have booked tickets for five different events which includes trips to Beca, Aurecon, Xero and WSP Opus suitable for year 10-13. If you would like to be a part of one of these trips, you will need to email me ASAP telling me which trip/s you would like to go on. It will be first in first served. Note that you can't do both trip 3 and 4 as they are on the same day. Similarly, you can't do both trip 3 and 5 as they are both the same trip, just on different days so we can get more students there. Here are the details of the 5 trips:
Trip 1 Monday 13th August 9am – 3.15pm Aurecon Year 10 Calling all future engineers! We have an action-packed engineering day planned for you, including plenty of hands-on activities to demonstrate the real-life applications of engineering. You'll have the chance to talk to and learn from lots of different types of engineers, including civil, structural, mechanical, chemical/process and earthquake engineers. Come along to get an insight into the groundbreaking technology Aurecon is using and learn how we apply our knowledge as engineers in bringing ideas to life. Come see our software engineers at work, hear how they got from school to one of New Zealand's most successful software companies, and have a go at writing your own software to control robots! After lunch, we'll give you an engineering-challenge to do in groups. We'll take you on an office tour to meet our people working on real-live jobs and you'll even leave with a gift! There are three types of scholarship - one for excellence both in and out of the classroom, the other is Maori/Pasifika/refugee students, and the last one is for students who have excelled in a particular field. Applications are due on 15 September 2018 for next year.

On the last Wednesday of term - Wednesday 4th July, we will be visited by two representatives, Abby April and Kate McRae, from consultancy firm KPMG, which specialises in auditing, tax and advisory for corporations. If you are a year 10-13 student interested in commerce, this is a must see talk. Abby and Kate will also explain more about the KPMG scholarship of which a number of QMC students have been awarded. Kate is an old girl who gained the scholarship herself, and now works for the company. Come to A5 as soon as the lunch bell goes - bring your lunch.
