Engineering week takes place on the 13th - 16th August in Wellington. We have booked tickets for five different events which includes trips to Beca, Aurecon, Xero and WSP Opus suitable for year 10-13. If you would like to be a part of one of these trips, you will need to email me ASAP telling me which trip/s you would like to go on. It will be first in first served. Note that you can't do both trip 3 and 4 as they are on the same day. Similarly, you can't do both trip 3 and 5 as they are both the same trip, just on different days so we can get more students there. Here are the details of the 5 trips:
Trip 1 Monday 13th August 9am – 3.15pm Aurecon Year 10 Calling all future engineers! We have an action-packed engineering day planned for you, including plenty of hands-on activities to demonstrate the real-life applications of engineering. You'll have the chance to talk to and learn from lots of different types of engineers, including civil, structural, mechanical, chemical/process and earthquake engineers. Come along to get an insight into the groundbreaking technology Aurecon is using and learn how we apply our knowledge as engineers in bringing ideas to life. Come see our software engineers at work, hear how they got from school to one of New Zealand's most successful software companies, and have a go at writing your own software to control robots! After lunch, we'll give you an engineering-challenge to do in groups. We'll take you on an office tour to meet our people working on real-live jobs and you'll even leave with a gift! Year 13 students who are interested in studying law at Otago University have the opportunity to attend at session at the Wellington Campus of Otago University on 12th June 1-3pm. The session will cover how the law degree at Otago is structured and career pathways beyond it. It will also outline some law cases of note and some recent graduates will present also. There will be the opportunity to ask questions about studying and living at Otago. Students must get approval for their absence from their teachers, must be up to date with their work, and must apply for leave through the usual school processes. The link to register is here.
If you are wanting to know more about what's involved in studying design or art at Massey University, you can register for the CoCA (College of Creative Arts) experience day on Friday 13th July 9am - 4pm (in July school hols). You will be doing workshops in fine arts, design, commercial music and creative media production. Register directly here, but be quick as places are restricted.

New Zealand Defence regularly runs careers experience days for Year 12 and 13 students who are wanting to know more about what a career in Defence might look like. The next Defence Careers Experience (DCE) is coming up on 16th - 20th July based in Linton, Palmerston North. If you are interested in this, please read the information attached. Applications close on 1 June at 12pm.
